Imperceptible Time
iOS application
This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.
An iOS app to observe time and change in an Arctic landscape. I am struck
how often I read the word desolate used to describe the landscape of the
Arctic regions. It is my belief that we need to view the landscape from
a non-human perspective, discarding our perception of time.
Tolerate a loss of self and a loss of rationality by trusting in the
capacity to recreate oneself in another character, another environment.
-Keats
This app is a reminder of the small moments and movements, the imperceptible changes that the
human eye fails to perceive.
Small increments of time are presented in the stones. The hour hand is
made of larger landscape features and the background slowly shifts over
twenty-four hours. The app progresses to reflect how I imagine rocks,
snow, ice, lichen and arctic moss view their world and experience human
interaction.
